Photo by @petekmuller. A young #Ukrainian man wades out into the #Dnieper #River on the outskirts of #Kiev at dusk. A dip in the river, along with the sun's retreat, is a welcome reprieve from Ukraine's sweltering summer days. I've been amazed by the amount of seasonal daylight here, with the sun rising at about 5:45 am and setting close to 9 PM in the evening. It makes photography tricky with the fleeting moments of nice light separated by long, intense periods of light that is harsh and unforgiving. I've been in Ukraine photographing an element of a story on boys and gender for a forthcoming special issue of National Geographic Magazine.
