The North Cascades National Park contains over 300 active glaciers and was designated a national park in October, 1968. Erosion from glaciers has formed the North Cascades into one of the steepest and most rugged mountain ranges in the lower 48, of which some peaks have an astounding 8,000 feet of elevation gain.
