In Everglades National Park, a concentration of life can be often be found in "cypress domes". These are clusters of trees which thrive in slight depressions where water from the aquifer pools slightly deeper, providing habitat for a multitude of animals especially during the dry season, including this Barred Owl. We joined Everglades locals and avid millennial birders, @magesapprentice and @novus.photographii on a day out and spotted this beautiful owl perched on a low branch, not particularly alarmed of our presence. I quickly mounted my camera to a six foot broomstick with a remote trigger, climbed up a fallen tree and was surprisingly able to capture a few images from above as the owl calmly observed my bizarre behavior.
