While there is an increasing trend to expand the definition of beauty in the fashion world, people with albinism are still severely discriminated against and even attacked for their appearance in some countries - despite the fact that the rare genetic condition occurs in all racial and ethnic groups globally. People who have albinism have a reduced amount of melanin pigment in their skin, hair and/or eyes. In the U.S., approximately one in 18,000 to 20,000 people has some type of albinism. In other parts of the world, the occurrence can be as high as one in 3,000. @sodajonesinc #onassignment #NYC #photography #humanrights #fashion #activism #NYFW2016
