Photo by @Cristina Mittermeier. I loved photographing this beautiful #spiritbear but why do I feel so bad for the fish?? I was touched by the look of surprise that this female pink salmon had on her face as she was scooped up by a bear…. just as she was arriving in her spawning grounds. After a 2 year long journey into the ocean, salmon like this one, return to the same creeks in which they were born. Soon after they spawn, they die, thus completing a fantastic and mysterious journey. Their decomposing bodies then go on to feed the entire ecosystem. Everything, from the trees to the jellyfish to the people, benefit from the arrival of salmon in these creeks and the wonders of life and death are never too far from sight. On expedition with @paulnicklen and #Gitga’at First Nations. Shot with #SonyAlpha. To see more images from The Great Bear Rainforest please #follow me at @Cristina Mittermeier
