First things first, GO DAWGS!! With this being my first University's/Under 25s I am seeing a new younger group of lifters which maybe this is your first big meet. I remember my first one- Nationals 2014- my first snatch the collar broke and went bouncing off the stage, & then i forgot how to squat and did some really sketchy power clean attempts and bombed. I had no idea what I was doing haha anywayyyys I love my sport and want to help whoever I can, knowing I have a pretty big reach to a lot of you still competing the rest of the weeekend.... here are a few things I was seeing leading to red lights even though the lifts themselves were beautiful: 1. Wait for the down signal, unlike local meets, you will hear a loud beep instead of a hand signal. There is also a little light but I usually wait for the audible 2. Meaure your belt before you start- there is a measuring tool for what is legal on your credentials! 4" is maximum limit 3. Don't slam the bar, release your grip after the bar is below your hip 4. Have a few scenarios ready "if i make this i will call for XXkg next, if i miss i will repeat" so you are ready to give your next attempt instead of having to take the automatic 1kg increase if you don't tell them what you want to lift next in time 5. Have fun! Don't take it TOO seriously especially if you are newer to the sport. Enjoy the moments you get on the platform & soak it in as it goes so fast! ? good luck!! Up for meeting anyone after I lift today, don't be shy ? #USAW #USAWUNC #collegiatenationals #UGA #godawgs @usa_weightlifting
