However, now that the peace treaty between FARC and the government has been rejected by a majority of voters in a controversial referendum, the future is uncertain and many fear that war will break out again. Just to add to strangeness of the situation, President Juan Manuel Santos was just awarded the Nobel Peace prize for negotiating a peace that now appears may not happen.
