My grandmother - Patricia Neal - the backbone of our family - the leader and rolemodel of a pack of strong women learned solely by following her lead. An academy award winning actress and mother of 5. She suffered from 3 strokes at the peak of her career, while pregnant with my mother. She is the epitome of strength and determination. She was told she would never walk or talk again - she refused to accept that. She worked 20 hours a day to regain her speech and ability to walk. Being the fighter she was born into this world to be - she accomplished it all. She couldn't have done it without the support of her loved ones and her doctors. We need the U.K. Government to commit to a new stroke strategy in 2017. My grandma was living proof that given the right care and support stroke survivors can go on to lead full and active lives.
