I checked her pouch and there was one tiny baby suckling on her nipple. I made sure the mother was actually dead and not playing dead, and gently removed the baby from her. I kept the little one warm and fed for the night. The next morning, When the sun was out, I walked back to check the area for other babies and found 5 MORE (!!!) scattered around. I gathered all 6 of them and put them in a warm box. Over the week I had them, they went from being hand fed milk from a syringe to scouring the room looking for dead bugs to eat! They were so much fun to look after. I would put all 6 in my sports bra and walk around with them doing my daily tasks to mimic the pouch their mother had. It broke my heart to leave them behind, but I dropped them off with a veterinary student who is now raising them until they are ready to be released back into the wild. They all had such funny personalities. I miss being their foster mother…Feeding them and extracting their pee every 3 hrs, this is what I live for!!
