For the newest class of Next Generation Leaders, TIME has selected ten young men and women from around the world who are rising stars in their fields. From music to medicine, they are changing the world, one day at a time. French singer Héloïse Letissier, a solo artist who performs as Christine and the Queens (@christineandthequeens), is one of them.
Letissier, 28, belongs to a new genre of musicians who eschew explicit sexuality and embrace gender fluidity. Through her powerful LGBT anthems and proud pansexual identity, she has become an inspiration to those who feel they don't fit social norms.

She says her wild onstage persona is all her - only without the boundaries. "Christine is my superhero," she tells TIME.
