Although they are the main attraction, Katmai National Park is not just all about grizzly bears. If you take the time to stop looking for big furry brown bears you will find so many amazing creatures...such as bald eagles, puffins, sea otters, and (like this guy) red foxes. When I think of Katmai, especially the coastal lodge we went to, I think of intimate animal encounters and experiences. And it doesn't get much more intimate than this moment I shared with this beautiful red fox. He wasn't more than 5 meters away, and he was as calm and comfortable as one can be. In fact, he was more than that...he was curious of me. I was lying flat on my stomach, face to face with this guy, and at one point he actually got up, came over to me, and sniffed my hand. It is a moment I will remember for the rest of my life.
