The heat of the stove seems able to warm the whole house and the heady scent of coffee, cinnamon and nutmeg mingle in its corners. There is something wonderful about the thought of endless cups of coffee, hands clasped around warm mugs and convivial conversation at the breakfast table. I am looking forward to the weekend, wrapped in this divinely soft jumper from @jmclaughlinny and a comfy relaxed tunic and pants - leaving a little room for extra weekend treats. It is fast becoming my foolproof weekend attire. And a recipe for kuri squash pancakes now up on the blog (follow the link in profile) - the very thing for a breakfast at home. Served simply with warmed maple syrup or maple butter and a sprinkle of crunchy toasted walnuts. The citrus is good again and I like slices of cara cara oranges or ruby red grapefruit on the table, their slightly tart acidity a lovely bedfellow with the syrup sodden pancakes. A big bowl of grapes of course for picking at after the pancakes are gone but there is still reading to be done.
