Marfa, Marfa, Marfa. Ever since I moved to America I have heard of this special little art town in Texas. My first night I met a couple young guys at the bar. Both born and raised in Marfa, one Mexican and the other Hispanic. The young Hispanic guy slid his phone over to show me a Meme about Trump trying to catch Mexicans then laughed and made it clear he didn't vote for him. He then told us that his childhood best friend, the young Mexican man, voted for Trump. The young Mexican American man explained to me why he went from supporting Bernie to voting for Trump. He believes that this notion you have to be a career politician to be qualified to be the President has been the source of major disconnection. Anyone can be the President and it's about time that someone who hasn't spent their life in bureaucracy should lead the people. He was excited for something, anything different. He said he did a lot of research and was not interested in more of the same. It's a change they want, and at least now there is a chance they may get it. In a small town where 75% of the residents voted for Hillary and marched through the town a few days before, he was making a bold statement. He was gentle and thoughtful. From his perspective, he voted for change. I am thankful for his honesty and for so clearly explaining how he made the journey from Bernie to Trump. And so this Canadian who doesn't get a vote but pays taxes and lives by the rules continues her wander through this complicated country. #myconcentratingface #learningamerica #marfamarfamarfa
