We are watching Syria burn in real time. And just like Bosnia and Rwanda, we do nothing. Every time a massacre happens, we say “never again.” Now, “never again” is happening. The Syrian army’s operation to recapture the rebel-held Aleppo has resulted in executions, torture, rape, and many more war crimes. The Syrian regime and the Russian government have ignored calls for safe passage of civilians from war-torn Aleppo, as more than 100,000 people are still trapped inside the city. Sound familiar? Reminiscent of the death camps of Darfur, chemical warfare in Iraq, sieges of Bosnia, Cambodia, Myanmar, etc. The people of Syria will join the lengthy list of innocent victims abandoned by the international community.
