We love each other and we will never give up on each other, whatever happens.” Abdesattar (left) and Walid (right) are a #gay couple from Tunisia. They have been together for five years, but because of hostile attitudes towards same sex relationships in the region and laws that make some consensual same sex acts a crime, they have kept their relationship hidden. They have lied to family, colleagues and their landlords, saying they are just friends or cousins. The photographer, fearing for their safety, offered to conceal their identities. "No," Walid said, “now it is time." They posed for the camera, removing their shirts to show each other’s names tattooed on their chests. Like their love, once a secret, now revealed for the world to see. -
