Hundreds of people are protesting at airports nationwide against President Trump's executive order banning entry to visa holders from seven countries in the Middle East including Iraq and Syria.
At New York City's JFK airport, photographer Amr Alfiqy (@amr_alfiqy), on assignment for TIME and @timelightbox, spoke with Blair Imani, a 23-year-old activist. "I was born and raised in Los Angeles where I converted to Islam in college," she says. "I come from a black father and a white Puerto Rican mother. My parents are both Christian. Last Friday, I flew out of Alabama where I was being harassed by TSA as I attempted to check in. I turned around and took off my scarf and passed with no issues or harassment. It's insane and ridiculous that this protest needs to take place but it is necessary and I'm just so glad to see solidarity with the Muslim community."
