Fifty years ago today, on Feb. 3, 1967, the cover of TIME magazine honored three astronauts who were killed during a simulated launch aboard the Apollo capsule. Lieut. Colonel Virgil Grissom, 40, Lieut. Colonel Edward White, 36, and Lieut. Commander Roger Chaffee, 31, were more than five hours into the rigorous rehearsal when a fire exploded in the cabin. ⠀
