The Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute breeds Guam rails, which hopefully will be reintroduced to the wild one day. In 1986 there were only 21 Guam rails in the wild, which were captured and sent to zoos around the country. With the help of a Species Survival Plan, which helps create a genetically diverse population, we have hatched more than 80 chicks. And there are more than 100 in the wild. #EarthOptimism
