Henry Ossawa Tanner entered this masterwork "The Annunciation" in the 1898 Paris Salon exhibition, after which it was bought for the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1899. It was the first work by an African American artist to enter a major American museum. #BlackHistoryMonth
