Photo by @kitracahana // A young girl and her mother work on creating a crown out of flowers and plants they’ve just collected during the mother-daughter Blooming Bodies Retreat, a full day devoted to marking and learning about this moment in the girls' lives - the onset of puberty, on June 12, 2016 at the Foxhollow Farm and Retreat Center, near Louisville, Kentucky.

The mother-daughter Blooming Bodies Retreat, is a day long workshop run by Amy Bammel Wilding which focuses on educating and celebrating young girls on the cusp of puberty. The day consists of many activities and sessions, including a segment on female anatomy, a segment on learning how to chart one's menstrual cycle, a segment where each mother shares her own story of menstruation, a segment where the girls learn about tampons, diva cups, pads and other options that they have to use once they start menstruating as well as many other sections. The day culminates in a ceremony where the girls are welcomed into womanhood by the circle of mothers.
