I photographed these paintings as part of a lengthy @ナショナルジオグラフィック story on why people became artists. Standing in front of images that old is an awe inspiring experience. Its like time collapses, 35 millennium drop away and the artist who made those paintings spoke straight to me. That experience made me launch the Ancient Art Archive. It is a global initiative to preserve our shared culture by identifying and recording the oldest art on the planet. We use photography and 3D modeling to bring the experience of the art to as many people as possible and also to guard it against loss.
