Photograph by Michael Yamashita @Michael Yamashita - Shwe Myint Zu Pagoda provides a big splash of color in the middle of monochrome Indawgyi Lake, Myanmar's largest inland body of fresh water. Due to an ancient superstition that the Lake is inhabited by evil spirits, few people live along its shores and it has become a wildlife refuge, a paradise for birds and major feeder of clean water for the Irrawaddy River which flows to its south. The Pagoda comes alive for just 10 days before the full moon in March when thousands of pilgrims from all over Kachin State come here to pray and play.
