In 1943, Solomon Guggenheim and Hilla Rebay commissioned architect Frank Lloyd Wright to create a “temple to the spirit of art”, which opened to the public in 1959, ten years after Guggenheim’s death. Toward the end of his life, Guggenheim said of the project that he never regretted his “intuitive decision nor my great faith in this [nonobjective] Art.” On view now in Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic rotunda, you’ll see 170+ modern works from the Guggenheim collection in #GuggVisionaries.
