79 years ago this week: "Variety" announces that Judy Garland will play Dorothy gale in "The Wizard of Oz." In the movie, she wears sparkly Ruby Slippers on her journey along the yellow brick road. One of the pairs from the movie is in our collection, which means it belongs to YOU, the American public. Well, we have big news about your pair of shoes! ?

Sunday, April 23, 2017, is the last day to see the Ruby Slippers on display for a significant period of time. You helped us raise support for their conservation and it's time to get that project started. ?

During the project, will stabilize and preserve the Ruby Slippers so they can be on display for decades to come. The conservation is necessary for the Ruby Slippers, now over 75 years old, to prevent future deterioration. We'll let you know when the Ruby Slippers will return to display as soon as we can. We also plan to keep you updated along the way as we learn more about the construction and history of the shoes. ?

We're working hard to spread the word that there are just over 50 days to come see the Ruby Slippers in person at the museum before they go off display for a period of time. If you have a friend or family member who loves the Ruby Slippers, let them know it's time to plan a visit ASAP. Thanks! ?
