Is this the "Standard of Excellence" that the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) allows in their hospitals? Amputating the toe bones and claws from cats for the welfare of a piece of furniture and making fun of this cruelty and torture? ??? This is a photo posted on Instagram by a vet tech at an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) hospital. The caption said, "The best kitties are sedated kitties :)" and it had the hashtags, "laserdeclaw" and "frontdeclaw" on it. AAHA has 900 standards of care for their hospitals and doesn't allow non-anesthesia dentals. Their declawing position statement says they "strongly oppose" declawing yet say that it is not mandatory for their hospitals to follow their position. WTH? Do they just not care about the welfare of cats??? AAHA says this on their website, "Our accredited hospitals hold themselves to a higher standard. Pets are their passion, and keeping them healthy is their #1 priority." Guess what AAHA? Declawing is inhumane, harmful, and below the standard of care. Declawing harms the health and well being of a cat! ??? Please sign my petition for AAHA that will hopefully inspire them to not allow declawing at their hospitals. They must do the right thing and start protecting the welfare of cats over the welfare of their member vet's pocketbooks or their fear of losing these pro-declaw vet members. They use a laser at this AAHA hospital to burn off the kitty's toe bones and claws and say it's "less pain and less swelling." They charge $208.95 for a "front declaw" and they say they do "plenty of them." Your signature on my petitions WILL make a difference.
