A little #bluesday inspiration from #bkmeuropeanart: Portable and precious, these lavishly decorated books were intended for private devotion, and made primarily for wealthy patrons. These illuminated manuscripts generally combined text (prayers and psalms, usually in Latin) and illustration (often depicting the lives of Christ or the Virgin). The vibrant colors used by the miniaturists have benefited from the books’ often lying closed, safe from the harmful effects of light: the reds, greens, and—notably for this exhibition—blues are remarkably well preserved. #infinitebluebkm ?
