Photo by @jimrichardson // The farms in the Palouse of Washington are legendary among photographers—like myself—who are forever on the lookout for the patterns and meaning of life. We circled tight over this farmer who was cultivating and trailing dust clouds on a calm day. It’s a dry land out there and farmers are forever trying to conserve what water the sporadic rains bring them. Besides that, they have to worry about their soil, which left bare and exposed could easily be blown away should heavy winds kick up. The patterns you see here mean this farmer should be very, very careful.
On #NationalAgDay, we #ThankaFarmer for growing our food with only 0.7% of the water on Earth. And for finding new ways to solve the world’s water crisis. Test your water knowledge at nationalgeographic.com/unchartedwaters. Sponsored by @WinFieldUnited. In partnership with @sustain_ag and @landolakesinc.
