My lesson today: slow down just enough to listen. I was overwhelmed with emails this morning and I nearly lost it. When you have 1,000 emails to read (no joke) it can feel like a deluge. I answered a few (not a lot, but a few) and then just as I was about to drown I made the most important choice of my day. I closed my computer and started my spiritual practice. Meditation and prayer first, then asana. There was a time when I was deeply depressed and intensely busy and I only made time for the poses. I lost my center. I spiraled out of control. Three things brought me back: meditation, therapy and God. One day I'll share the whole story. Even though I feel like I now stand on solid ground, those old patterns always lurk. It's a testament of strong to walk away from the past and into the present. If there is a place where you're stuck you can't fix it by fighting it. But you may be able to tune in deeply enough to understand and accept it. It's those moments of connection and presence that make the difference. The mad rush of things-to-do can be addictive and even fun, but the gift of Spirit only slides in when we make space for it. There is a quiet voice of wisdom that yearns to speak to you and that Divine voice is waiting patiently for you to listen. I can't say what will make the shift for you, but I can say that learning how to listen has made all the difference in my life, not just today, but really every day. ? . #practiceyogachangeyourworld #onebreathatatime ? .
