Beginning today, New Yorkers have one more way to get around the city by water: @nyc_ferry. The service, with 6 lines, will eventually link Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn and the Bronx along the East River. Ferries on 2 of those lines — the Rockaway, Queens, route and the existing East River route — are now up and running. One of @nycmayor Bill de Blasio’s most heavily promoted initiatives, the ferry service is coming at a high price to the city — but not to riders. While the city has pledged to spend more than $325 million, the mayor has promised to hold the fare even with that of the subway. That’s a bargain for an hourlong trip to Wall Street in a 149-passenger boat equipped with Wi-Fi, bike racks and a concession stand selling snacks and drinks.
