Happy birthday to Mariano #Fortuny, born #onthisday in 1871. For forty years before his death in 1949, he combined antique inspiration with artistic originality in his famous Delphos dresses. Subtly dyed silk was pleated with a secret patented process, accented with a belt printed with exotic metallic designs, and weighted with glass beads from the island of Murano, near the Spanish designer’s adopted city of Venice.
