In Memoriam

#Xinjiang Province (#EasternTurkestan) in #China is a region under high surveillance by the central government. The dunes of the immense desert of #Taklamakan stretch as far as the eye can see. It is an ancient part of the Silk Road, with ancient cities now lost or fallen into decrepitude, encroached upon by the shifting sands, recalling fallen kingdoms. One can still make out the outline of broken walls of ancient habitations, and fields are bordered by a few pieces of wood propped up towards the sky. It has been several centuries since there were signs of life and the dead remain buried there.
This man journeyed into the desert on a pilgrimage to the tomb of the Imam Jaffar Sadegh, one of the major sacred spots of Islam.
