Lacemaking demo! During #WorldWar1, lace could save the day. The Belgian people spent part of the war cut off from all supplies due to German occupation and a British blockade to starve the Germans of needed materials. The Commission for Relief in Belgium was established with Herbert Hoover as chairman. They delivered supplies AND thread. That way, Belgian lacemakers could could export lace. Many people in Allied countries generously bought laces to support the Belgians. We're at #HandiHour at #RenwickGallery highlighting #WW1 crafts and history. Have you ever tried making lace?
