Carved for the tomb of a king, and shrouded in mystery for more than 200 years.

These lions were commissioned in the 14th century by Charles V of France for his tomb at the abbey of St. Denis, Paris, where they remained until the French Revolution. Now they will be offered in The Exceptional Sale – 6 July at Christie's London.
