フィラデルフィア美術館のインスタグラム(philamuseum) - 7月8日 02時01分

Until the arrival of photography, portraiture had been out of reach for all but India’s courtly classes. This image depicts a middle-class Parsi family, decedents of Zoroastrians who emigrated from Iran to India as early as the eighth century. Their clothing and other prominently displayed items—such as their lion-adorned door-hanging, record player, elaborate tea set, and a board used for a tabletop game—express both their ethnic and economic status. “A Parsi Family in their Family Room,” 1934, India
