A few months ago I drove around my old neighborhood and passed by the house I grew up in, something I hadn't done in decades. I wondered what it would be like to revisit the house and go inside again, the last time I was inside that house was when I was 8 years old. I vividly remember the layout of the house and what it felt like in every room. I also remember the sunlight coming in through the windows specially in the summer.
This carpet from Carmen Argote's childhood home —titled "720 Sq. Ft. Household Mutations - Part B" reminds me of that. Objects/material as time capsules and artifacts that hold so much history. A carpet that has so many stories embedded in it.
Removed from its original context, viewers are encouraged to rethink the carpet as a map, elevating it to a sculpture of historical personal narrative.

Now on view as part of "Home- So Different, So Appealing" —Guadalupe Rosales (of @veteranas_and_rucas And @map_pointz) #LACMAInstaResidency #PSTLALA
