Maybe the most surprising thing about the original “Fountain” is how few people actually saw it. The #sculpture became famous for being rejected from the exhibition organized by the Society of Independent Artists, and was lost or destroyed (no one really knows what happened to it) soon after. But its notoriety has only continued to grow over the last century.
