We love that a big channel like #DiscoveryChannel dedicates an entire week to the awesomeness that is sharks BUT it can get VERY fear-mongering, which makes it that much harder to gain support to help sharks. Just remember this week that sharks are apex predators but they're not monsters. And they're REALLY important! CGI blood, quick cuts, scary music, and re-enactments broadcasted to the general public is not exactly what sharks need right now as their numbers are plummeting. It's hard to get people to care about an animal they mistakenly think wants to eat them. And sharks really are fascinating enough without the dramatization!
This week our posts will be pretty shark focused. The new and improved shark portion of our website will also go live throughout the week with a bunch of new ways you can help get the word out there that SHARKS ARE VITAL AND THEY NEED OUR HELP :)!
You can also help us by speaking up for sharks this week! Feel free to repost anything we upload to our social media platforms, or on our partner @oneoceandiving's accounts, you don't need to ask, it's all about spreading the word!
