"Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity" - Simone Weil...For a week each summer for the past 10 years our family has travelled to the Dominican Republic to visit these sweet kiddos. Many of them aren't kids anymore but young adults now entering college, starting jobs, dating...all of the things ours at home are doing. Our prayers for them are the same. They've become our family. We go every year because we love and miss them, and we want them to know they are worth our time and attention. For this week everything else stops, we simply hold hands in the ocean, play basketball, paint, laugh, create, talk. We learn from one another. Attention is reciprocal, and I believe that over the years it's by far the greatest thing we've given them, and they've given us. It's a beautiful thing how that works; when you give it, others give it back. It's free. Everyone has it and is capable of giving it. You forget about whatever you are going through for the moment and focus on the needs of another. It can be given anytime, anywhere. Yet I believe this quote is even more true today than ever with so much to distract us. I hope you take the time to give someone your attention today (a smile, a hug, eye contact, a kind note, a compliment) and know that you're giving them a pure and rare gift that money can't buy ?@HelpOneNow #strongandkindkids
