"Every performance reflected her determination to create space and visibility for black women in a movement—and more broadly a world—that, at that point, preferred to remain exclusive and blind." This quote from @newrepublic explains Lorraine O'Grady's 1981 performance, which she staged at our institution in response to segregation in the art world. The original costume—a dress made from gloves—is now on view in @ブルックリン美術館's exhibition, "We Wanted a Revolution: Black Radical Women, 1965-85."
