EATING WITHOUT GUILT⁉️ A lot of the time, social media portrays fitness to look like warfare: demolishing broccoli, slaying chicken, bulldozing brown rice. In this battleground, there is no place for error. No room for indulgence or dietary pleasure. All you have the energy for is pushing through resistance. After all, abs are made in the kitchen right? With this mentality grained, belittling agreements begin to cultivate in our minds. We start seeing food in a black and white manner. W and X food are good. Y and Z food are bad. There is no in-between. Beyond this, food begins to take on moral implications. W and X are good, therefore I am good/powerful/strong/in control. Y and Z are bad, therefore I am bad/powerless/weak/out of control. And with no surprise to many, these associations can bring about severe social consequence. From missing parties to dodging holidays. From rain-checking get-togethers to missing out on your own birthday. And whenever you do get around to enjoying the presence of company with celebratory intents, food is often a social medium. A gathering place. A mediator. But with dichotomous morale ringing in your ears at every bite, this food is rarely nourishing. Guilt takes rise and builds momentum at your so-called ‘wrong-doings’. Your ‘progress is 'dissipating’ as food becomes bolus. You are ‘powerless’, so you either need to up the ante on your fitness game or not try at all. Regardless of your decisions, your priorities are clear. After all, missing out on your birthday cake and soul-moving memories are a small price to pay for a set of abs, right? Wrong. The presumption that you can either live a life of abundance or of fitness is an all-for-nothing fallacy that implies irrational conditions to calories. This misconception strips the joy pleasure, and balance out of life. Food is no longer recognized for its simple constitutions and its chemistry, but rather its contribution to our character. If what I illustrated resonates with you, I encourage you to click the link in my bio and watch my recent YouTube video. I explain the intentions behind nutrition and how self-care and self-love can weave through your lifestyle?
