Who doesn’t like playing in a ball pit? Our North American river otter Ashkii had a blast when keepers cleverly hid her diet—a mix of ground beef, fish, clams, and other foods—among the colorful toys. This food enrichment encourages her to use her olfactory, visual and tactile senses to forage. Because otters have very high metabolisms, they’re constantly on the lookout for their next meal.
