This picture was taken of an old ousted male lion in the wild. Male lions have a very hard and stressful life in the wild. They're kicked out of their natal pride by their fathers and uncles and are left to roam until strong and bold enough to take on another pride male/s. If the take over is successful these ousted males normally try and live on the fringes of the prides they were evicted from, eating scraps and scavenging because by then their condition has normally taken a turn and their hunting ability hindered. It can be a vicious cycle as their nutrition becomes further compromised and therefore so too their condition. It sad to see them this way especially considering how powerful they once seemed in their hay day. This particular male probably didn't live too much longer after this picture was taken as he was struggling to walk and clearly was in pain. Could've died of natural causes or from being attacked by a hyena clan. Which ever way it's not that graceful and certainly not an image most associate with a powerful male lion. #toughinthewild #malelion #kingofthejungle #savehabitat #savelions
