The North Cascades receive unimaginable amounts of snow each year and don't melt out until mid summer and some years not at all. The Mt. Baker ski resort, about 5 miles from where this photo was taken, broke the world record for annual snowfall in one year back in the 1998-1999 snow year when it received 95 FEET of snowfall!
