When I was a little girl in Carlsbad, Ca I played AA travel soccer. It was pretty much life. I'd put on my adidas cleats and my "Carlsbad Wave" jersey. Packed my water, pulled my hair up in a pony tail and I ran out on the field. Always a right forward. I loved scoring goals. What soccer taught me was teamwork, it taught me strength as a girl, it taught me patience.
There were many, many practices with dad, where I cried, he was tough when it came to sport. But he was always fair. Perhaps it's the reason why I am so resilient today.
What soccer and sport can teach us girls, is that we can kick it to a partner, run as far as we can go, we can look forward & we can score together as a team.
Adidas has now given me a chance in my career to better other women's lives. Girls, kick, pass, look forward, score. Don't let anyone get in your way. My whole career nobody thought I'd equate to anything & that resilience in me, that right forward, that same light in my eyes that dad saw in me, that's the girl that can kick it. So fuck what everyone else is doing, there's a fire inside of you, you were as we say, born to create.
Now, go. Dreams come true, but you're going to have to work for them.
