One of the true joys of my job is the people I meet along the journey. This is Hans, an #inuit born and raised in Tasiilaq Greenland. I was lucky enough to spend 11 days on a boat with Hans, where he was first mate to the captain. He had a sharp eye, a strong work ethic, silent humility and a heart of gold. A man full of life and stories. He's seen here, in this small carousel of images, just after shooting and cleaning a seal for meat he would be bringing back to his family. He was generous enough to cook us all dinner this night, preparing it the same way he grew up eating it. Understandably there may be people that see a couple of these photos as a little shocking, but for Hans this is just a way of life. Hunting seal for the Inuit is a completely sustainable way of life and one they've been practicing for thousands of years. I'm grateful to walk away from every trip I take with a new perspective of what life is like around the world, in the vast cultures that inhabit it.
