?? Le mercredi c’est le jour des enfants sur notre compte ! Le sculpteur Bosio représente ici Henri de Navarre, fondateur en 1589 de la dynastie des Bourbons, âgé d’une dizaine d’années. Cette statue en argent, datée de 1824, est une commande destinée au roi de France Louis XVIII (1815-1824). Ce portrait rétrospectif du jeune Henri IV est une effigie de propagande, l’utilisation de l’image du fondateur de la dynastie devait valoriser celle des Bourbons après la Révolution et l’Empire napoléonien, en rappelant leur passé glorieux et en jouant sur la popularité dont Henri IV jouissait au début du 19ème siècle. Œuvre la plus copiée sous la Restauration (1815-1830), elle témoigne de l’engouement pour le premier Bourbon. Elle sera présentée dans la prochaine exposition de la Petite Galerie du Louvre, « Théâtre du Pouvoir », qui montrera le lien qui unit art et pouvoir politique. Ouverture le 27 septembre !

?Wednesday is kids day on our feed! Here the French sculptor Bosio depicts Henry of Navarre as a child aged about 10. He was the first French Monarch of the House of Bourbon in 1589, under the name of Henry IV of France. This silver statue, dated from 1824, was commissioned for the king of France Louis XVIII (1814-1825). This retrospective portrait served as propaganda purpose: the use of the image of the founder of the House of Bourbon was meant to promote the Bourbons image after the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Empire, reminding the people of their glorious past and playing with Henry IV's popularity at the early 19th century. As the most copied artwork under the Bourbon Restoration (1815-1830), it shows the fondness of the Bourbon king. It will be on display in the Petite Galerie’s next exhibition “Power Plays” which focuses on the connection between art and political power and will open on September 27! ?
