Not too many years ago livestock was used for transport and agriculture. With the mechanization and urbanization of civilization we don't have as much of a direct connection, pets aside, to animals. Western Sports involve animals, the type we eat and ride. Rodeo, with its many disciplines, is part of cowboy culture. Life out on the range can be hard. This lesson of being part of the food chain is part of the ethos that frame rodeo sports. The one discipline that embodies the physicality of rodeo is bull riding.
The Pro Bull Riders @pbr aim to ride a bucking and spinning bull for 8 seconds. The bull wants nothing more than to rid him self of the rider and the rider wants nothing more than to control the angry bull. Weighing in at around 1800 pounds the bulls are specifically bred for tossing young men off of their backs. With names like "Fender Bender", "Swervin Mervin" and "Smooth Operator" these animals mean business. When @meatchurch asked if I would rather go back to Everest or ride a bull I figured 8 seconds of misery and a hard fall is better than 8 weeks of misery in the ice fall.
In this clip @derek_kolbaba goes for a wild ride. Thanks @yeti for the invite and @craighummer good to catch up.
