An Italian small-town teen with slightly bigger-#Liverpool town aspirations, photographer #FrancescoMellina moved to the city almost forty years ago. Not being able to play any instruments, he was unable to contribute to music literally. So he instead picked up a camera, shot the things he liked, and found out that he was pretty good at it. This insightful collection of photography perfectly encapsulates the music scene of the North over the late seventies and eighties. Comprised of intimate moments with the likes of #PeteBurns- #Francesco went on to be his manager- to #EchoandtheBunnymen and #SiouxsieandtheBanshees, the book is a brilliant subcultural time capsule of one of the most musically rich cities in the world. We managed to get the chance to chat with Francesco, and here is some of the conversation shared. The rest can be found at the blog and you can click the profile link to be taken to the online store where the book can be purchased. Even better, copies can be found in our Soho store at #8BerwickStreet. YOU’VE MET SOME AMAZING TALENT OVER THE YEARS. WERE ANY OF THE BANDS OR ARTISTS NOT HOW YOU EXPECTED OR EVEN BETTER THAN YOU EXPECTED? Well generally I have to say that every band that I met were extremely courteous to me. I don’t know whether the fact that me being Italian, that they felt like they had to be nice to me. I just don’t know what it was, there were hardly anybody – from #SiouxsieandtheBanshees to #RoxyMusic to #ThinLizzy – all those sorts of people. They were always very courteous to me. Even #theStranglers – they were apparently notorious for being quite difficult. They just let me in backstage, and I took photographs. CONTINUED IN COMMENTS BELOW…
