This December, Eugène Delacroix’s only known oil sketch of his masterwork, ‘Liberty Leading the People’, will lead our 19th Century European & Orientalist Art auction in London.

Ahead of the sale on 14 December, the painting will be on view at Christie’s Paris from 13–18 October, then at our London saleroom from 2–13 December. Entry is free and open to all.

‘‘La Liberté guidant le peuple’ is one of the most iconic works in art history,’ says Arne Everwijn, Head of 19th Century European & Orientalist Art in London. ‘We are extremely excited to present the only known oil sketch of Delacroix’s masterpiece.’
