Yorick is a bionic skeleton. Sporting a cardiac pacemaker, cochlear implant, and other gadgets used to replace worn body parts, the plastic skeleton was created by Ed Mueller, an engineer in the Division of Mechanical and Material Sciences at the United States Food and Drug Administration in Washington, D.C. ??? With his electronic and mechanical devices, he’d often make appearances at schools, Scout meetings, and hospitals to educate students about bionics and current research on implant design development. ???‍? See if you can spot all his devices: cranial plate, silicone nose, carbon tooth root, interocular lens, heart valve, artificial heart, infusion port, vascular grafts, urinary sphincter prosthesis, artificial patella, bone plate, artificial tendons, bone growth stimulator, and artificial hip, knee, elbow, and finger joints. ?‍⚕️?? Designed to educate and not to terrify, Yorick wishes you an enlightening Halloween! And so do we. Remember to check out what museums and historic houses in your community are doing this weekend—tricks and treats are the most fun with a side of history! ???? #Halloween #Halloween2017 #HistMed #MedHist #HistoryHalloween #Skeleton #MrBones #PoorYorick #MedicalSchool #MedicalEducation #Bionic #TeachingTool
